Ballpoint, Bocote and a Grenade (not real)
Bocote and a grenade
A pen that borrows from a piece of World War Two American iconography. This pen is surprisingly light for its size, because the fittings are made of anodized aluminum. It cannot explode.
Style: Parker type refill in click mechanism
Fittings: Antiqued brass
Weight: 2.2oz (62gm)
Diameter: 3/4” (19mm)-under the clip; 5/8” (15.7mm)-above the tip, basically the area one would hold while writing with the pen
Length: 5-11/16” (145mm)
Item #: P4BPP0021
Completed: 29 July 2017
Though there is a clip, it may not be practical to slip it in a shirt pocket. The clip (the safety handle of the grenade) is the release that retracts the writing tip. A solid pin on the back of the clip/lever would keep the pocket fromslipping between the clip and the body of the pen.
Like many finishes, CA (cyanoacrylate or 'Krazy Glue') finish is applied to the object while it spins on the lathe. At Penchant 4, as few as six or as many as twelve coats of CA can be applied to protect the decorative elements. It is then polished and buffed to a high gloss. CA is considered to provide a very durable finish; but it is not indestructible. Typically, CA finishes are only applied to wood or other organic materials.
